Safe Haven Ministries is a nonprofit outreach serving people in crisis — whatever shape that crisis takes.
Our story
Safe Haven Ministries began the way most outreach does — with a need that could not be ignored and a handful of people unwilling to look away. Someone needed a meal. Someone needed a ride. Someone needed to not be alone on the worst night of their life.
That is still the shape of the work. We are a ministry of presence: showing up for people facing homelessness, people fighting for their recovery, and families whose world has just come apart. We pray with people who want prayer, and we sit quietly with those who do not.
Over time the practical needs told us what to build next: help with past due rent, water, and light bills; GED classes for the diploma that keeps costing someone a job; and a hand finding work. What we believe
Four things we hold to
Welcome first
Nobody has to clean themselves up before they are allowed in. Welcome comes first, and everything else follows from it.
Dignity, not pity
The people we serve are neighbors, not cases. We listen before we advise, and we never trade someone their story for a meal.
Faithful over flashy
Real change happens in the unglamorous middle — the fifth visit, the hard month. We aim to be the ones still there.
The whole person
Housing, sobriety, a past due bill, and family rarely come apart separately. We try to help with the whole tangle, not just the neat part.
